Despite the cold temps, the studio has been warm more often than not with some adorably sweet newborns visiting this month. This little sweet pea hung out with me one morning last week and slept away his session. From bean bag to bucket, he took whatever poses we wanted to do in stride.
Newborn portraits are a wonderful way to remember baby just as they are when they are brand new. Any age is a great age to do baby portraits, but as baby gets older, even in just a few short weeks, they get used to having more space, they adjust to the noises and lighting around them. It can be more difficult to get them to sleep or keep them asleep as they get older. I have babies of all ages in the studio and will prepare you for how your session might go according to whatever age baby is. While I have had wide awake newborns, and a fast asleep 3 month old, in general the super curly, squishy baby poses so many love are done with in the first 2 or 3 weeks of age.
My style is a mix of natural and posed. I do love including soft wraps, outfits, and blankets in sessions. I also enjoy including a timeless, fun prop such as my antique carriage, a rustic box stuffed with a soft blanket, or even a timeless theme moon set. While I do have plenty of props in the studio, I tend to keep the focus on baby, even with props included, and like to keep my sets simple and clean to highlight the subject of the session, your baby.

Sessions can also be done on location, in your home or even outside, depending on the time of year. On location sessions are more lifestyle and use your home as the set, instead of props, studio lighting, and too many outfits. This is a very personal session and create memories you will enjoy for years to come. So whatever your style, more baby focused, or documentary on location, a newborn session is a wonderful way to remember this fleeting time.
